JKM Manufacturing Ranks 4th in the Quality Leadership 100 Awards for 2011 by Quality Magazine

EUFAULA, Ala., (March 16, 2011) - Quality Magazine, which serves the quality assurance and process improvement needs of more than 100,000 manufacturing professionals, ranked JKM Manufacturing, Inc., No. 4 among its Quality Leadership 100 list for 2011.

JKM Manufacturing was honored in the Quality Leadership 100 among Brembo North America, which was ranked first, followed by Thermo Fisher Scientific and Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies Corp.

Quality Magazine's coverage includes reports on the use of sound metrology methods, statistical analysis and process improvement techniques to significantly improve quality on the shop floor and in manufacturing planning.

According to its website, Quality Magazine educates manufacturing professionals with quality assurance and process improvement information needed to succeed with reports on the use of sound metrology methods, statistical analysis and process improvement techniques to significantly improve quality on the shop floor and in manufacturing planning. No matter the size of the company, quality is critical, it says.

"Everyone at JKM, from the engineers to the assembly line, strives for innovation, flexibility and reliability to build quality components," said Chad B. White, JKM Chief Executive Officer. "This honor is a testament to their dedication and teamwork in our commitment to quality."

JKM General Manager Lexington W. Scroggins said, "Our quality is not simply defined by the Quality Department. Our entire staff creates the quality of the products, from receipt of the order until the finished product is properly shipped."

The magazine noted that JKM "has made a name for itself as a provider of precision products for defense, communications and aerospace industries, supplying everyone from the Department of Defense to NASA with its parts."

Since 1997, JKM has built products used on guided missiles, military aircraft, flight simulators, helicopters, tanks, industrial robots and sonar test equipment. JKM upholds the military certification DoD MIL-I-45208A.
In addition, Scroggins said JKM customers also have certified us to the AS9003 standard.

JKM's products are designed to be used in harsh environments, so their reliability is of the utmost importance. To ensure their consistency, JKM's products undergo stringent environmental and electrical testing and are held to the highest available standards in the United States, the magazine noted. JKM does not understate the demands its products undergo, and therefore holds them to a strict quality standard. Quality Leadership noted of JKM: "Our products range from the very simple to the very complex. Every step of the way, attention to detail and high regard to quality and reliability are part of our well-documented military quality control system."

According to its website, more than 400 manufacturers participated in the Quality Leadership 100. It said they were surveyed on criteria such as scrap and rework as a percentage of sales, warranty costs as a percentage of sales, rejected parts per million shipped and contribution of quality to profitability and shareholder value.

In addition, it said companies also were evaluated based on the number of quality programs in place; registration to various standards; percentage of employees dedicated to quality responsibilities; average number of hours monthly that employees receive quality training; and the role quality professionals play in the acquisition of test, measurement and inspection tools, software and services.

"I am proud that the quality and dedication of our team was recognized," said White, JKM's CEO. "All of us understand that when lives depend on the job we do, quality is a way of life and a basic tenet of what we do at JKM."
The magazine noted in its coverage: "Whether providing design and development, build-to-print, prototype-to-production, producibility analysis or production transition capabilities, JKM's experts ensure that our customers consistently receive high-quality products made in the most cost-effective and efficient manner."

JKM's customers include Raytheon, General Dynamics, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Honeywell Defense, NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, L-3 Communications, the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and Defense Logistics Agency.

The magazine said JKM's "electro-mechanical assemblies are used in aircraft, tanks, armored vehicles, helicopters, missiles, gun systems, flight simulators, industrial robots, sonar test equipment, trucks, ships, boats and other military and aerospace applications."

Further, it reported that the company staffs 30 people at its 22,000-square-foot, vertically integrated production facility. It employs skilled staff members, who have a range of skills - from high-volume commodity manufacturing to high-tech systems integration. It handles materials acquisition, kitting, inventory control, multilevel production testing, distribution and shipping. "JKM says its engineering staff tirelessly pursues advancements in manufacturing technology and processes to preserve quality," according to the magazine.

"We are honored to be recognized for our strong dedication to quality and our customers," White said. "JKM continuously looks to improve what we do and how we do it so our customers will continue to rely on us."
